Street children are a common aspect of third-world society, especially in Pakistan. According to the United Nations, there are approximately 1.2-1.5 million street children in Pakistan alone. These children are extremely vulnerable to sexual abuse, physical abuse, drug addiction, mental illness, and much more. According to the documentary, “Pakistan’s Hidden Shame”, 9 out 10 street children will experience a form of sexual abuse. Many of these children are initially raped, and then over time they learn take up prostitution as a way to make money. This makes them even more vulnerable to drug addiction and sexually transmitted diseases, which in turn decreases their life expectancy to be no higher than the age of 25 years old.
